GreenGardenPost was conceived by a Bay Area landscape designer with the goal of reducing waste and encouraging the reuse of garden and landscape items. Too often, she would come across scenarios like this one:
Client A replaces their brick patio with flagstone, sending four tons of brick to the landfill in the back of their landscaper's pick-up truck
Client B, one week later, tears out their gravel path and installs a new brick walkway.
There has to be a better way, she thought. So she spoke to her clients, and found that they were eager to find an alternative to the landfill. Some had tried using online classified sites to sell their unwanted landscape material, but found it hard to effectively describe their items (what information is useful when posting a pile of river rock?). Lost amongst a tidal wave of used cars, apartments for rent, and refrigerators for sale, they got few, if any, responses and quickly gave up. Others had tried to buy used landscape materials (looking to save some money in addition to saving the planet) and had run into similar obstacles.
And so, she set about designing a website dedicated to connecting those who no longer need their garden and landscape items with those who are looking for those very same items.
Unlike other online classifieds, GreenGardenPost guides users through what information to include in their post, helping them to create a high-quality posting with relevant descriptive information. As a result, those who are searching the site for used materials are more likely to find what they are looking for, leading to a successful exchange.
GreenGardenPost is a community-driven site that is committed to providing a reliable and viable means of reducing waste and promoting environmental responsibility. After all, not only is one person's trash another person's treasure, it's also the path to a healthier planet!
GreenGardenPost was started by a small team in San Mateo, California, and currently serves the entire San Francisco Bay Area.
